Support for Research

Pathways to Research Engagement

There are several pathways for engaging in research and scholarship during your time as a medical student in MACMED. Here are some of the ways you and your supervisor can engage in research:

  1.  Horizontal research electives
  2. Enrichment Program: Students have the option of taking 6-12 months out of your studies to pursue this opportunity.
  3. Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Engagement: Medical students will be able to engage in QI work across a wide variety of disciplines in different Hamilton hospitals.

CQI is a quality improvement framework that engages health care teams, particularly front line health care providers. By creating 13,000 problem solvers, Hamilton Health Sciences, will move our hospital forward through our strategic plan. This framework is allowing frontline staff to be engaged in making HHS better and has given leadership opportunities to observe and champion this great work. By using methodologies that study and measure improvement ideas as well as standardizing work we can provide sustainable and fiscally responsible health care.  The medical students will be integrated into these teams, participating in the daily huddle, working on data collection and understanding the indicators and drivers that are important as part of patient care, supporting teams, providing a sustainable health care system while also investing in research and innovation in a large health care system.
  4. Students can approach supervisors directly to engage in research and scholarship activities
