The Annual Lecture Series on Cutting-Edge Advances in Pediatric Research

Type 2 diabetes is a relatively new pediatric disease, spurred by the pediatric obesity epidemic. Dr. Panagiotopoulos is the Medical Director of both the Type 2 Diabetes/Insulin Resistance and the Provincial Mental Health Metabolic Programs, as well as the Quality & Safety Lead for the Endocrine & Diabetes Unit. Dr. Panagiotopoulos will speak about her research on childhood diabetes with a focus on vulnerable populations, including Aboriginal youth, and children with mental health challenges. In addition, as the Clinical Core Leader of a Childhood Autoimmunity research team, she will speak about her work in developing a provincial biorepository and understanding complications in type 1 diabetes.
